Site Manager - Middlesbrough

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 2-4 months approx

Location: Middlesbrough, Teesside

Salary: up to £30 per hour, PAYE basis

Hours of Work: Full time, 8 hours per day

Job Description


The client is involved the H21 project, a collaborative NIC funded project that aims to determine the suitability of the existing gas distribution network to transport 100% hydrogen through its existing assets. As hydrogen emits zero carbon it is fast being considered the gas of the future and the replacement to natural gas. The next phase of this project is a world first, converting part of the existing low-pressure gas distribution network in Middlesbrough from natural gas to hydrogen. To enable this, a design is underway for the construction of a test facility that will be centred around 400m of below ground low pressure gas mains on a site of three acres.


The project requires a Site Manager to oversee the build phase of the facility, located in Middlesbrough, Teesside. The successful candidate may also be required to support the Client Project Manager as required. The role is designed to ensure consistent, safe, timely, effective and efficient delivery of the build phase supporting the client’s business objectives in line with relevant legislation.


The daily duties will include:


Direct accountabilities:


  • The Site Manager will report to the Project Manager, ensure that the H21 facility build is delivered to meet the requirements of the project in line with relevant legislation and NGN processes.

  • Develop and maintain a positive safety ethos both within the team and through the impact of the team's activities to meet the Company's EHS objectives through the effective delivery of the build.

  • Site contact for the build of the facility under the NEC3 Form of contract.

  • Oversees and ensures safe site activity.

  • Produce technical reports and provide technical input into incident investigation on an ad hoc basis.

  • Collect site records for Data Books compilation.

  • Support project manager with completion of daily allocation sheets to support input into finance forecasting and budgetary control as part of project governance and delivery.

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety procedures.

  • Ensuring compliance with CDM.

  • Review RAMS and site permitry associated with lifting operations, working at heights, excavations and hot works.

  • Ensure up to date registers are maintained on site.

  • Ensure site activity adheres to the relevant traffic management, waste management, environmental and construction phase health and safety plan.

  • Escalation of any site welfare issues.

  • Where appropriate input into development of designs in line with the Formal Process Safety Assessments (FPSA) process including attending HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON events.


Indirect accountabilities:


  • Maintain key competencies in line with safety and technical competency as required by the business.


The successful candidate will have the following:


Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know How:

  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and experience of successful project planning.

  • Understanding of appropriate legislative requirements.

  • Experience of reviewing and approving site construction documentation.

  • Experienced of reviewing and approving plans and design documentation.

  • Knowledge of industry policies and procedures.

  • Previous site management experience and compliance with CDM.

  • Management experience in utility and construction sectors.

  • Safety Management competencies and accreditation.

  • Excellent leadership, influencing/negotiating, customer orientation and communication skills, providing the ability to support /communicate and effectively develop working relationships with staff at all levels

  • Demonstrate financial management and commercial acumen as well as proficiency in forecasting.

  • Ability to maintain positive working relations with all customers and stakeholders.

  • Valid current UK Driving Licence.


Qualifications Required:


  • Ideally educated to or working towards degree standard in a relevant discipline but will consider HNC/NVQ

  • Level 4 or equivalent, leading to incorporated status or similar in the field of construction or engineering.

  • Ideally supported by recognised training or qualifications in Health, Safety, Environmental, project management and financial management.


Desirable:


  • Previous delivery on a range of gas assets across all pressure ranges and asset types from low pressure through to high pressure including civils, electrical and instrumentation, mechanical (pipes and valves etc).

  • Experience of delivering high scoring CCS (Considerate Constructors Scheme) sites.

  • Experience of Streetworks (NRSWA).

  • Proven track record of successful site supervision for capital construction projects.
