Senior Quantity Surveyor

The purpose of this document is to provide a high-level scope of the clients requirements for a short-term appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on our clients HyDeploy2 project.

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to undertake the lead commercial role on one of their HyDeploy2 contract. This project plans to develop hydrogen blending in the UK gas network through a public network trial in the North East based at the clients Low Thornley site using hydrogen production and blending equipment.

The role will be full time for the duration of the short term contract and due to the COVID restrictions will involve home working. The individual will be required to provide all necessary IT equipment to be able to undertake this role from their home. If restrictions change and employees are returned to the office the individual would then be required to work at the offices at Thorpe Park. There may be a requirement to visit another site, which is located just out of Gateshead in the North East.

The project is based on a bespoke NEC4 Option A design and build contract and we are looking for someone who is proactive in administering the contract and pays attention to detail in doing so. Excellent communication and negotiation skills is also important to us.


This is a 6-7month contract, and we are looking for someone who can start work straight away.

The daily duties will include:

  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and other reports which may be required.

  • Challenge & manage cost control and provide cost mitigation measures where appropriate.

  • Undertake contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.

  • Negotiation and agreement of change events, extension of time claims, final accounts within the timescales required.

  • Measurement of quantities and pricing of work as required.

  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.

  • Ensure appropriate contractor relationship is initiated and maintained.

  • Preparation of Valuations/Application for payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract.

  • Assessment of Valuations/Application for payment

  • Administration of contractor accounts from the preparation of detailed payment notices, monitoring and authorisation of contractor payments through to agreement of final accounts.

  • Drafting of complex contract arrangement including professional services & appropriate terms of engagement.

  • Undertake any other work as required of you by your line manager

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Commercially astute. Excellent knowledge of all NEC Forms of Contract

  • Excellent organisation and record keeping skills.

  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)

  • Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate and communicate clearly with others.
