Senior Network Technician

The main purpose of the role is to oversee and participate in the ongoing routine maintenance of district governor stations in the Isle of Man and Jersey ensuring they are maintained to the highest standard to ensure a safe and secure supply to our customers.
The Technician will provide first line technical support, back up to fellow colleagues, deputize in the absence of the Network Officer, and respond to the daily functions of the department.
The daily duties will include:
The Technician will be competent in working on LP / MP Pressure tiers.
The Technician will be able to engineer solutions on site and focus on first time fix, be able to carry out functional checks, full maintenance, and safety device inspection as well as installation work.
Prepare Routine and Non-Routine operations for approval.
Competent person onsite during Routine and Non-Routine operations.
The Technician will follow all Gas Network Procedures.
Ensure accurate completion of all documentation and records.
Participate on the emergency call out Rota (As specific by location / business need)
The Technician will be responsible for the Site Safety they are working on.
Provide Technical support to their colleagues.
The Technician will travel to Jersey on occasions too carry out the maintenance of the Jersey Governor stations as scheduled within the maintenance management system.
Responsible for the Management of the Network Team / Network Contractors in the absence of the Network officer during holidays or sick leave.
Contribute and support the Network Officer for the Safe and Efficient delivery of Network activities carried out by the Network department and external Contractors.
Key working relationships (internal and external)
Internal Relationships – Role requires regular contact with the Network officer to provide performance information with regards work activities.
The Technician provides support to their Operational Colleagues in the Network Team to enable delivery of Network Capital Projects.
External Relationships – Role requires an excellent relationship is developed with Customers, Emergency Services, Other Utilities, External Contractors and the Highway authority at all times.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to their annual performance development review and interim performance reviews.
Health and Safety
The post holder will be responsible for their own health and safety and the impact of their advice and actions on others and seeks guidance as appropriate.
They will be responsible for identifying any possible risks, or near misses, via the Hazard reporting procedure.
Any other duties
The post holder shall perform such duties, observe, and conform to such reasonable instructions as directed by Senior Management.
The post holder shall perform standby duties as part of the Company emergency response arrangements.
The post holder shall be provided with appropriate training and supported to enable the role to be carried out effectively.
Provide training and mentoring opportunities within the scope of your responsibilities to the Assistant Network Fitters.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Demonstrate an apprenticeship or similar with recognised mechanical engineering qualification to level 3 NVQ minimum or Governor Craftsman qualification.
VS02, PSSR, PSR, Pre – Heaters, Emergency Procedures, Principles of Pressure Control, Operation & Maintenance, Pipe Jointing, 7bar pressure control equipment. Valves & Closures, Pipe Coatings & Cathodic Protection.
SCO 1,2,4,5 Competent Person
At least 5 Years’ experience in a Gas or similar industry.
Demonstrate a good knowledge of construction, operation and maintenance of gas equipment.
Proven experience of emergency processes in the Mains, LPG and / or Plant
Possess a level of good commercial awareness and understand the most cost-effective solution of working as a mobile engineer.
Effective communication skills with colleagues, public, contractors and consultants.
Have appropriate technical, operational and process knowledge relevant to Natural Gas and LPG.
Be able to demonstrate and understand Technical/Engineering Standards and Codes of Practice applied within the gas industry.
Be able to demonstrate and evidence understanding with all Health and Safety & Environment legislation.
Possess the knowledge and skills to be capable of completing all job documentation.
Be able to demonstrate a thorough grasp of health & Safety principles and knowledge of all relevant statutory legislation.
