Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer
Responsible for: Safety & Compliance Officer, Risk Assistant, Gas Safety Officer
Senior Managers are expected to provide inspirational leadership and management and are responsible and accountable for the efficient and effective management of their staff and resources. Formulate strategies for the department to successfully achieve the organization’s overall strategic objectives.
The daily duties will include:
To ensure that systems, processes, and procedures are in line with legislation and best practice in the gas industry and ensure that systems prove positive assurance for owned gas assets
Liaise and advise the business on engineering compliance and control measures
Take a lead role in determining, directing, and advising the business of as safety matters including resources and personnel.
Liaise with Enforcement Bodies, clients and where necessary customers concerning gas safety.
Implement Risk Management Strategy aligned to BS ISO 31000 to protect value and prevent loss of the gas infrastructure.
To develop a monitoring system to ensure the business complies with all codes of practice, regulatory targets, and stakeholder requirements
To ensure that business processes and activities fulfil the requirements of the Major Accident Prevention policy and the Control of Major Accident Hazards.
To promote and implement a safe working environment.
To ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements in its day to day activities.
Monitor, measure and report on Health and Safety, regulatory and legal issues complying with documentary targets and timescales.
To provide support to the Senior Managers and the executive Board in matters related to Gas Safety, Regulations, and best practice as and when required.
To manage the risk register within the company, identifying risks and monitoring actions necessary to reduce the impact.
To ensure a competency management system is implemented and managed.
To ensure a document control system is implemented and managed.
Management of Staff and Resources:
Ensure Function Team remain efficient and targets are achieved.
Support Function Team with Personal Development.
Successful delivery of key objectives set by the business.
Achieve defined outcomes in all areas of responsibility.
Responsible for budget control within function
Broader responsibility to support budget control across the business
Frequent contact with operational staff and other heads and managers across the group.
Liaison with external agencies/authorities.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to their annual performance development review, and interim performance reviews (this process is currently under review)
Health and Safety:
The post holder will be responsible for their own health and safety and the impact of their advice and actions on others and seeks guidance as appropriate.
They will be responsible for identifying any possible risks or near misses via the Hazard reporting procedure.
Any other duties:
The post holder shall perform such duties and observe and conform with such reasonable instructions as director by Senior Management/Directors.
The post holder shall perform standby duties as part of the Company emergency response arrangements
The successful candidate will have the following:
Gas Engineering Qualifications suited to dealing with COMAH sites and gas infrastructure.
Degree or other higher education or proven track record in successful operations management.
Gas engineering experience (storage & distribution)
Experience operating at an executive team or above level.
Managing an operational function in a business dealing with a high volume of customers
Proven experience of successfully leading delivery and transformation in a large department.
Track record of delivering results with drive, enthusiasm and energy, being focused on improvement
Developing and implementing processes that help identify and meet our client's needs, coordinate services, while providing outstanding customer services
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, customers and external bodies
Clear, concise and articulate communication skills (both written and verbal)
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively
Strategic capability and problem solving skills.
Use of IT and other relevant software.
Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers.
Ability to persuade, motivate, negotiate and influence in a positive way.
A full understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act and its associated regulations applicable to IEG.
Ability to demonstrate strong and credible leadership in being able to pull together people and motivate them to deliver common aims and targets.
