We are looking to recruit an experienced Project Engineer for a period of 6 months. This can be based in the clients offices in Guernsey. Jersey or the Isle of Man, or remote from the UK.
As an energy company whose main product is gas, it is a business priority to actively manage our climate change transition risk. This requires IEG to strategically invest in short, medium term and long-term R&D activities aimed at exploring ways to diversify, decarbonise and future proof the business. IEG’s investors and key stakeholders (including the local government) expect IEG to have a Net Zero R&D Strategy and decarbonisation plan in place tracking R&D activities to bring new Net Zero aligned products and services to IEG’s existing or new markets. A clear R&D Strategy and active pipeline of Net Zero R&D projects is also high value for internal and external PR and attracting & retaining staff.
Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, the Net Zero Project Engineer shall provide Research & Development (R&D) Project Engineer support to contribute towards our energy transition goals through established R&D projects. These projects cover a range of areas including low carbon heating solutions and renewable energy technology through to renewable gas production projects. Our strategic objective is to meet our net zero products and services goals by 2050.
The contract holder should have clear knowledge and practical application of engineering fundamentals and experience of project managing or acting as the engineering interface for feasibility through to the development of technical projects; ideally energy sector related. The position reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer.
Short term contract Statement of Work:
To project manage and provide the engineering interface for the following Net Zero strategic scenario options that have been identified in the IEG Net Zero R&D Strategy, namely:
Anaerobic Digestion Plant in Jersey – to include engaging with project partners, feasibility study supplier, industry experts and IEG engineers etc to ensure IEG’s risks are managed, and we maximise any potential opportunities for the biomethane produced from the AD plant.
Green Hubs in the IOM (options for district heating using mixed energy and hydrogen production) – as above but for mixed energy district heating and hydrogen.
Biomethane from landfill as renewable gas for Guernsey – as above through engagement with external suppliers and IEG stakeholders as required to deliver the project.
PV and/ or other renewable energy technology for all islands – to include engaging with suppliers/ potential partners and internal stakeholders to produce a business case and customer journey map. If approved, the role holder should manage the opportunity through the internal project approval stage gates through to implementation.
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) products and services – to include working across the service areas (customer operations, marketing, sales, asset, People team, as required) to pull together the product and customer journey map, supplier and product needs and resource planning for this opportunity.
The above shall involve, but not be limited to:
To use broad technical skills to provide engineering assistance with the project feasibility, design and development activities of new low carbon and renewable products and services.
Supplier and internal IEG project team liaison and management to ensure that the projects are delivered on time, budget and to required business objectives.
Project manage and/ or prepare business cases for viable scenario options.
Coordination of technical reviews and or production of content for detailed technical reports based on engineering input from IEG internal asset management teams.
Coordination of the Net Zero R&D project pipeline to ensure all priority opportunities are progressed in line with required internal and external timelines and standards.
