Network Lead (Guernsey)

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure the safety of all personnel on-site through the use and continual improvement of operating procedures and safe work practices.

  • Deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational plans to ensure all internal and external customer service levels are met and where possible exceeded.

  • Ensure gas supply remains uninterrupted through effective deployment of safe control of operations (SCO).

  • Responsibility for the Network Operations competency matrix and training plan, and ensure adequate team support, mentoring, competency, training, and succession planning is in place for all roles.

  • Ensure all work conducted by Network Operations team is delivered to approved standards both internally and externally as defined by codes of practice.

  • Plan work proactively, including the selection and request for materials, parts and equipment required for the activity.

  • Ensure all planned maintenance is executed by required by date within the Computerised Maintenance Management System.

  • Act as Competent Person as defined by SCO for operational and maintenance activities.

  • Supervise teams to ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and maximises performance, productivity, and value to the business.

  • Take initiative and offer technical support and direct assistance within area of expertise and competence to improve quality and efficiency of work practices

  • Prepare and submit agreed reports on performance to Asset Operations Lead and the Head of Network Operations & Asset Management.

  • Ensure that the hazards within the department are raised and provide risk control through making sure hazards are assessed, controlled and where applicable, removed with appropriate RAMS and Dynamic Risk Assessments for all works.

  • Build and maintain a constructive working relationship with the H&S Officer.

  • To schedule and deliver.

  • Act as Duty Manager for Guernsey as per rota requirements.

  • To plan, deliver and monitor agreed service levels and customer standards of service for all Customer and Emergency generated work.

  • Identifying possibilities for performance and productivity improvements. Form clearly defined outcomes, identifying gaps and put into action appropriate mechanisms to realise the outcomes.

  • Identifying and keep up to date with the technical innovation appropriate to the operational activities and where they can be applied submit recommendations to support improved safety, performance, and productivity.

  • Managing all operational activities within the agreed financial limits and provide both leading and lagging indicators to ensure the effective monitoring.

  • Assist other Network Operations staff in the execution of their responsibilities and accountabilities in times of need, absence, emergency etc.

  • Participate in the 24/7 standby function that meets the agreed or legal standards of service

  • Challenge inefficiencies and inaccuracies and provide solutions in line with IEG values and North Stars


The successful candidate will have the following:


  • NRSWA Supervisory Level

  • IOSH Managing Safety

  • SCO 1,2,4,5 Competent

  • Experience of Supervising and motivating a team

  • Demonstrate effective budget control.

  • Previous experience of writing procedures.

  • Ability to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the quality required.

  • Membership of or working towards a relevant professional body (for example CMI, ILM, IOSH, IGEM)

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment

  • NVQ Level 3 Craftsperson (Network Operations)
