Engineer (Network)

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Guernsey, Jersey or Isle of Man, however, may need to travel between the three islands when business requirements dictate.

Salary: £35k - £40k per annum, dependent on experience

Benefits: Relocation package will be offered to the successful candidate

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Responsible to Asset Delivery Manager

Department: Asset Management

Responsible for all engineering design & specification, maintenance tasks and capital projects relating to IEG Natural Gas, LPG and LPG/Air Networks, meters, PRI’s and associated plant and equipment.


The daily duties will include:


  • Acting as IEG Network Controller to ensure the safe control of operations across IEG’s Natural Gas, LPG, and LPG/Air Networks

  • Designated Project Manager for IEG Capital Maintenance/Growth relating to Network fixed assets.

  • Responsible for Mains & Meter Asset Management across IEG, ensuring replacement programs are specified and controlled effectively.

  • Responsible for Esri ArcGIS, Network Analysis (GasWorks) and MRPS, ensuring accurate data is captured into the GIS, MRPS and Network Analysis model for interpretation and analysis.

  • Responsible for arranging and managing pressure surveys to verify and improve the network analysis models as required.

  • Developing IEG’s Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure all Network & Meter maintenance tasks are specified to maximise; compliance, performance, integrity and efficiency.

  • Ensuring the CMMS is utilised to provide the Asset Management Function with key performance indicators that demonstrate asset performance, integrity and efficiency and add value to IEG

  • Provide accurate cost estimations for Capital Maintenance/Growth projects relating to Network operations.

  • Initiate Project Initiation Documents for project approval in accordance with Capital Project Framework and Procurement Guidelines

  • Control of the implementation of Network Operations projects by the Project Team and manage financial, schedule and quality project risks that arise.

  • Ensuring asset risk is reduced by managing the scheduling of preventative and reactive maintenance tasks across IEG Natural Gas, LPG, and LPG/Air Networks & Meters

  • Responsibility for specifying the Network & Meter maintenance required during the planning stages of all capital projects across IEG.

  • Providing expertise and consultancy to staff and business customers alike regarding matters associated with asset maintenance standards.

  • Providing asset integrity management support to the asset management function and the rest of the business where engineering decisions are needed relating to network matters.

  • Continually improve the operation of the staff and processes in the asset management function

  • Challenge inefficiencies and inaccuracies and provide solutions in line with IEG values. Management of staff

  • Responsible for liaising with the Project Team and project control throughout CAPEX project lifecycle


Service Delivery:

  • Successful delivery of key objectives set by the Head of Asset Management and Asset Delivery Manager

  • Achieve defined outcomes in all areas of responsibility.

  • Responsible for detailing variances in all areas of responsibility and ensuring corrective actions are closed


Budget responsibility:

  • Responsible for managing and controlling CAPEX specific to Network Capital Maintenance/Growth budget

  • Key working relationships (internal and external)

  • Employ a close working relationship with Asset Delivery Manager, Asset Integrity Manager, Head of Network Operations and all other Operational Officers across Guernsey, Jersey, and Isle of Man


Performance Management:

  • The post holder will be expected to contribute to their annual performance development review and interim performance reviews (this process is currently under review) Health and Safety

  • The post holder will be responsible for their own health and safety and the impact of their advice and actions on others and seeks guidance as appropriate. They will be responsible for identifying any possible risks or near misses via the Hazard reporting procedure.


Any other duties:

  • The post holder shall perform such duties and observe and conform with such reasonable instructions as director by Senior Management/Directors.


The successful candidate will have the following:


Essential:


  • Experience working within Gas Distribution in line with IGEM Technical Standards

  • Over 5 Years professional experience in an engineering and asset maintenance environment

  • Experience leading operational teams

  • Experience in remote team management

  • Undergraduate degree (equivalent) or higher in engineering field or 5 years + experience in Gas Industry

  • Attention to detail

  • Possess a strong sense of purpose and ability to influence

  • Strong decision making ability

  • Comfortable with communicating with and leading varied teams

  • Focused on achieving the completion of objectives within defined timescales to the agreed quality

  • High personal and professional ethics and integrity

  • Ability to set and reassess priorities whilst being resilient and able to work under pressure and to tight timescales

  • Self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative with a flexible and reliable approach.

  • Full and Valid Driving License

  • Police Check

  • Well Presented

Desirable:


  • Chartered Engineer approved by the British Engineering Council

  • Industry level health and safety qualifications (IOSH/NEBOSH)

  • Industry level project management certification
