Engineer (Asset Management Department)

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Guernsey

Salary: £40k - £42k per annum, dependent on experience

Benefits: 4% monthly profit share on top of salary + BUPA + £3k car allowance per annum

Package: Relocation package up to £2000 + 12 weeks temporary accommodation + monthly accommodation support thereafter

Job Description:

Provide technical support to the Asset Management team through engineering design, fault finding, specifying and maintaining accurate asset management systems.

The daily duties will include:

  • Day-to-day delivery of technical consultancy and advice including project management.

  • Undertaking of feasibility, conceptual and detail design studies, and development of strategies with hands-on design activities

  • Active on several projects at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades, some of whom you will be expected to provide mentoring and support.

  • Provide technical support in the design, specification, and delivery of engineering projects across multi-operational functions.

  • You will be responsible for ensuring engineering activities are delivered to budget, program and technical standards and meet pre-determined quality standards.

  • You will be liaising with fellow professionals to collect information and able to analyse them for better engineering solution.

  • You will be giving your input to making new policies which is beneficial for the asset management efficiently.

  • Deliver presentations and briefings to engage Asset Management function.

  • Deliver reports to share with wider business functions.

  • To provide technical support to the wider Asset Management Function.

  • You will be required to take up role of a duty engineer on a rotation basis.

  • Investigate root cause failure and maintain the database system

  • Specify accurate information on datasheet for procuring parts or equipment as and when required.

Key Working Relationships

  • Liaise with the Asset Management team to build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication.

  • Work closely with senior Asset Management team to develop and enhance processes and the asset information systems.

  • Communicate and work closely with all departments within IEG.

  • Communicate with outside agencies when appropriate whilst been mindful of the company’s Data Protection Policy.

Performance Management

  • The Post holder will be expected to contribute to their annual performance development review and interim performance reviews.

Health and Safety

  • The post holder will be responsible for their own Health and Safety and the impact of their advice and actions on others and seek guidance where appropriate. They will be responsible for identifying any possible risks and near misses via the hazard reporting procedure.

Any Other Duties

  • The Post holder shall perform such duties, observe, and conform to any reasonable requests by Senior Management.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Ability to produce technical reports, site appraisals, design calculations and the management of project drawings together with technical independence within the field of oil and gas transportation and storage systems.

  • You will have knowledge and understanding of Fluid dynamics and Thermodynamics as a minimum.

  • Ideally you should be a graduate engineer in mechanical or process engineering with a minimum of four years of experience (the training period in your career doesn’t count as experience).

  • You will have a good knowledge of the relevant UK and international gas and oil industry design codes such as IGEM, ASME, API etc. and be well versed in the development of project documentation, preparation and interpretation of drawings, Materials and Equipment Data sheets.

  • You will also be aware of current and emerging technical and legislative requirements and applicable guidance documents.

  • Fully conversant in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software applications, competence in other technical software applications would be advantageous to the position e.g., Auto CAD.

  • The ability to direct and check design outputs making use of this software would be a further advantage.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.

  • You will have experience in liaising with vendors, Co-Professionals, and design teams.

  • Possess a good knowledge of the legislative processes associated with planning, design, and technical consents process.

  • You will have experience in working in gas plants, chemical plants, gas transportation / distribution system, water industry or any other process plants.


  • STEM undergraduate degree (BSc or BEng) with 4 years’ experience OR Relevant Engineering qualification – HND/HNC with 8 years’ experience

  • Enthusiastic about engineering disciplines and focused on achieving membership to a relevant professional body.

  • Good verbal communication skills, attention to detail and initiative.

  • Self-motivation, positive attitude, integrity, tolerance and confidence.

  • Active listening skills, empathy and ability to interact with others in a tactful, sensitive and appropriate manner.

  • Ability to produce accurate work with attention to detail.

  • Ability to observe the Company’s data Protection Policy Competent IT Skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team including remote work

  • Self- motivated and able to demonstrate initiative with a flexible and reliable approach

  • Good organisation skills and the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy

  • An enquiring mind and willing to question and challenge

  • Police Check

  • Driving license

  • Willing to relocate


  • Technical and operational knowledge relevant to Process or Engineering sector

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD for P&IDs, PFDs and Schematics

  • Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems

  • Knowledge of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics
