Job Description

 

Working in the Gas Operations Team:

 

The primary focus of this team is the management of the gas transmission assets, which are over 200km of high pressure, cross country pipelines and 18 associated supply sites in Scotland and Northern Ireland. 

 

Role purpose:

 

The primary focus of this role will be to project manage the replacement and refurbishment of gas transmission assets reporting to the Gas Operations Manager. 

 

The role will include the development of a graduate engineer who will initially shadow, support and report to the Project Design Engineer. After circa 18 months, the graduate engineer will be expected to be the lead Project Design Engineer.

  

The role may also include providing engineering support in delivering new gas connections to Mutual Energy Assets.

 

 

The daily duties will include:

 

  • ensure compliance with gas industry ‘control of change’ standards and procedures 

  • procure and manage expert consultant designers

  • deliver design specifications on schedule and within budget

  • manage the installation, testing and commissioning of each project 

  • ensure records are updated 

  • preparation of annual budgets and reporting on a monthly basis

  • presentation of technical data or project results to both technical and nontechnical audiences 

  • assist with the development and operation of asset-life replacement processes

  • assist with Health and Safety Management including site and work inspections

  • Other daily duties and tasks as necessary

 

The successful candidate will have the following:

 

Qualifications / Experience:

 

  • A third level engineering/technical qualification or equivalent

  • Possess a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business purposes or alternatively have access to a form of transport which will permit travel to meet the requirements of this role

  • A right to work in the UK 

  • At least three years’ work experience in a similar role. In particular the candidate will have:

    • previous experience in working in a Project Management role

    • sound knowledge of natural gas transmission systems including both transmission pipelines and pressure reduction stations

    • experience of the gas industry change control process, in particular the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) guidance document IGE/GL/5 “Plant Modification Procedures and gas industry PS/5 Management Procedure for managing new works, modifications and repairs and associated management and work procedures

    • previous experience of procuring and managing design consultants either through a framework contract or similar arrangement,

    • experience in preparing, managing and reporting project budgets

    • experience in project scheduling and managing the project program of works on time,

    • A sound knowledge of gas legislation and regulations including the Pressure System Safety Regulations, the Construction (Design & Management) (CDM) Regulations, the Pipelines Safety Regulations (PSR) and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR).
