E&I Project Engineer

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 6 month initial contract with potential for extension

Location: Edinburgh/Glasgow Office – Covering whole of Scotland

Salary: £30-£40 per hour, PAYE basis

Job Description:


We are looking for a Project Engineer (Electrical & Instrumentation) to join our clients Major Projects Scotland team based at Axis House office, reporting to the E&I Project Manager.


As a Project Engineer (E&I) you will support the Project Manager (E&I) in undertaking major construction project related activities associated with all fixed electrical, instrumentation, telemetry and flow metering systems, including feasibility study, coordination of design, project planning, procurement, site installation and commissioning, to ensure projects are carried out safely, to policy and procedure, to programme and within budget.


Key Accountabilities include:


  • Technical coordination of project feasibility, design, procurement, site installation and commissioning of all E&I aspects of gas network major construction projects.

  • Managing projects to meet programme and budget constraints.

  • Coordination of project E&I related activities interfacing with company Major Projects, Operations, Asset Management, Gas Control and other departments, and externally with third party designers, installation contractors, and other interested parties.

  • Management of project documentation and drawings.

  • Effective management of contractors.


The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Qualified to HND/C in electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control or similar discipline.

  • COMPEX and relevant City and Guilds E&I qualifications such as BS7671, C&G 2391 Inspection and Testing.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of LV electrical distribution and instrumentation systems associated with the operational monitoring and control of gas network processes including hazardous area and safety related equipment.

  • Previous gas or petrochemical experience is desirable.

  • Previous experience working on UK Gas Transmission and Distribution is desirable.

  • Participation with projects planning and design, design review, control of modifications, site commissioning and document control.

  • Operational familiarity with field instrumentation, telemetry, boiler and pressure/flow control, odorant injection, fiscal flow metering and ATEX systems and associated software applications.

  • Operational familiarity with electrical systems including LV distribution, batteries / UPS, generators, controls, lighting, and associated design tools.

  • Experience of general MS Office software, CAD and E&I related applications.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities and challenging timescales and workload.

  • Able to drive and willingness to travel within the UK on a regular basis, working in both office and field locations including third party premises for meetings and factory acceptance testing.

  • Commitment to working ethically and with integrity.

  • Knowledge and Training on Safe Control of Operation desirable.
