Training for Gas Distribution Planning

Training for gas distribution planning will enable delegates to prepare a design plan for the installation of low pressure gas mains and services on new estates, and which are fit for purpose and suitable for connection to the public gas transporter's networks.

Course subjects included:

  1. THE UK GAS SUPPLY SYSTEM, FROM THE WELL TO CONSUMER: An overview of where gas is brought ashore, storage sites, the National Transmission System, Diurnal Profiles, Summer to Winter Demand, Storage, Compressors, pressure ranges and pipe materials.

  2. LEGAL FRAMEWORK: Gas Acts and Safety Regulations, Network Codes, Ofgas.  The roles and responsibilities of a PGT, Shipper and Supplier.  

  3. AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FLOW OF GAS IN PIPES: The factors that influence gas flow through a pipe, gas flow equations, the basic pricipals of Network Analysis and the effects of Altitude.  

  4. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF SERVICES TO IGE TD4: Design Philosophy, use of a Mears Calculator and regulations and guidance on pipe location, meter position, risk assessment, testing and commissioning.  

  5. DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF MAINS TO IGE TD3: Design philosophy, estimating and applying diversified demands, regulations and guidance on pipe location, risk assessment, testing and commissioning. 

  6. BRADLY B. BEAN WINDOWS BASED GASWORKS 7: In house training in operating the GASWorks Networks Analysis Program is given in groups or one to one.  The training uses the clients own design problems to show how to make data entry both easier and faster.
