The Pipeline Safety Regulations 1996, sets down wide ranging legislation directly impinging on Transco in the operation of its Major Accident Hazard Pipelines. In addition to ensuring that such pipelines are Designed, Constructed, Operated, Maintained and Decommissioned in accordance with appropriate standards and procedure Pipeline notifications, Major Accident Prevention Documents, Emergency Procedures and Emergency Plans are now required whilst not intended to be exhaustive these responsibilities include:
Establishing standards of training for all people with a role to play in the safety of a pipeline
Monitoring the performance of contractors to ensure the safety of their activity
Systems for the Audit of the quality of Design, Construction, Operation Maintenance and Decommissioning of pipelines
Emergency procedures that are exercised and tested much that they can be relied upon in an emergency
