Duties will entail:
- Undertaking engineering and procedural compliance site visits to support the safe delivery of NLGA operations.
- Providing consistent feedback to all relevant stakeholders on audit findings.
- Promoting best practice where necessary and the sharing of learning.
- Auditing as programmed a minimum of 40 gas technical inspections per month, reporting audit findings to senior management; identifying areas of concern and recommend solutions for improvement.
- Assisting in the closure of externally and internally raised audit findings in relation to technical compliance on sites.
- Liaising with the related bodies controlling and monitoring the said findings.
- Acting as coach and mentor to all site personnel on matters relating to statutory and mandatory engineering compliance issues, as required.
- Delivering on internal audit process requirements.
- Leading gas technical incident investigations, ensuring that the investigation reports are well written, clear and concise.
- Leading on the development of gas technical, engineering innovations and best practice to further improve engineering compliance performance.
- Producing gas technical engineering alerts, toolbox talks, and appropriate SHEQ training materials in order to communicate relevant engineering issues.
- Assisting with the development of NLGA SHEQ management systems.
- Acting as a role model at all times in support of the NLGA visions, priorities and values.
- Attending, supporting and representing Engineering & SHEQ requirements at operational meetings.
- Liaising with external bodies including the Health and Safety Executive, Clients and other stakeholders as directed.
- Carrying out any other duties appropriate for the role.

| Requirements: |
- Must be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to, the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies.
- Must possess a suitable professional SHE qualification, IOSH certificate desirable.
- Must possess an audit qualification.
- Must possess a suitable technical qualification in a related subject (i.e. gas/ mechanical engineering) such as HNC, ONC etc. would be an advantage.
- Full Driving Licence.
Technical
- Thorough knowledge of appropriate legislation, policy and procedures, with a sound understanding of National Grid’s engineering operations.
- Thorough knowledge of legislative framework and best practice in Health, Safety, Environment & Security within National Grid.
- Ability to conduct systematic inspections, recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives and coordinate to ensure their implementation.
- Thorough understanding of SCO procedures.
Interpersonal
- Proven track record of supervising, working in and contributing to high performing teams.
- Ability to think creatively and support Operations.
- Ability to constructively challenge and provide effective and positive feedback to all organisational levels.
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels (including senior managers) and across disciplines, both within National Grid, its contracting partners and with external organisations.
IT Skills
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
