Person Specification

The successful candidate will have knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems in the gas industry and be an experienced approved electrician.  It would be an advantage if the individual has knowledge /experience of ATEX and DSEAR regulations and holds a valid Comp Ex certificate.

Job Summary

  • Manage individual projects following SGN’s policies and procedures, from initiation through to design and appraisal, then installation, commissioning and records completion. 
  • Preparation of User Requirements Specifications detailing SGN’s E&I  requirements to submit to external design organisations.
  • Supervise installation contractors on SGN sites, manage site works to ensure successful installation and commissioning of electrical and possibly associated instrumentation /control systems, including;
    • Preparation of site installation methodology and operating instructions
    • Completion of commissioning documents
    • Mark up of drawings
    • Obtaining necessary permitry for site access and site works
    • Attendance on site to ensure installation works are completed, assisting with resolving any problems should they arise
  • Participate in site surveys to establish SGN’s requirements for new designs and potential future works.
  • Assist with cost estimation of new projects through discussion with suppliers and contractors.
  • If the successful candidate has relevant instrumentation experience he will carry out the above for both Electrical and Instrumentation works and be involved in modifications to site telemetry, initially managing the procurement of these services through external contractors, as well as ensuring the necessary test records and new software files are provided to allow the project to proceed and for SGN records to be updated.
Requirements:

An engineering qualification to HNC standard is required as well as a minimum of 2 years experience at supervisory level. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to safety, health and the environment.

Experience in electrical installation, inspection, testing and commissioning is required, and electrical authorisation on live gas sites owned by either SGN or any other gas network would be an advantage, though not essential.

Knowledge and experience of instrumentation, control and telemetry systems would also be an advantage due to the multi discipline nature of many of the projects.

Salary: Dependant on experience, qualifications, business mileage for use of own vehicle and business expenses
